A few days ago, I made up my mind to close this site since I haven’t updated this space in over a year. Today, I managed to enter this site (after having to reset my password because I’ve simply forgotten), and was shocked at the statistics, and to see this site still getting views and readers.

I won’t say things like “I’ll do better”, or “I’ll keep updating as much as possible from now on” etc etc for 2 main reasons:

#1: I know I wouldn’t be able to keep that promise

#2: There’s nothing much for me to recommend here in Singapore anyway

Ever since I’ve started work, I’ve found myself going out less, meeting people less and exploring things less. My life now involves the standard 9am-6pm stuck in office – and this means that I no longer have the freedom I once had in University, to explore new food places, or even to hang out with friends. With limited time on my hands, I believe it’s a matter of choosing how you spend your time, such that you would spend what little time you have, with the people who matter.

Besides, there are tons of people out there who can introduce you to the delicious Singapore delicacies 🙂

That said, I’ll keep this space open because…who knows? 😉

Just one thing to take note – I’ve made a short trip to Seoul earlier this year and found that the gamjatang store at Hongdae has been closed (SOBS) – but there’s a branch at Sinchon (in between Sinchon and Edae). I didn’t manage to take any photos when I was there, but just google the name and you’ll be able to find it!

Even though this space is pretty dead, I hope it’ll still be useful for those of you planning your trips, and that you’ll be able to enjoy the wonderful delicacies as I once did too.

Food: My Top 10


Here I am back in sunny Singapore for approximately 3 weeks now – wait, has it only been 3 weeks?! Gosh it feels like I’ve been home for a few months now. So far all’s good, except for this horrid Singapore weather… T.T Anyways, a couple of my friends have asked me for food recommendations in Seoul, and so I’ve decided to do a Top 10 post!

#10: Bossam

The one I always go to is called Mr.Bossam, and is located at Edae. Awesome stuff with free flow side dishes, rice and soup! The dish is also cheap – 6,000 krw 🙂

#09: Jokbal

The idea of eating Jokbal or pig’s trotters used to disgust me, but I grew to love it after awhile. The shop I visited, called Ohyang Jokbal is really famous in Seoul & I’m pretty sure they’ll change your mind about them – for the better 🙂

#08: Jjimdalk

Jjimdalk is one of the few dishes that remind me of home. It’s really like the braised chicken stew that my aunt makes, except that Jjimdalk is spicier and has the taste of gochujang. I love this dish for its tender chicken, together with thick tanghoon and potatoes. There are many shops selling Jjimdalk and more recently, I have tried Cheese Jjimdalk (which is basically cheese topped over the dish). The one at Yeolbong Jjimdalk gives you the option to add cheese!

 #07: Ddeokbokki

When I say ddeokbokki, I don’t just mean the ones you eat along the streets in cups. The ddeokbokki dish that I like is similar to budaejjigae, with ramen, eggs, sausages, ham, meat and what not. There are 2 shops that I like – Red Sun Ddeokbokki and Meokswidonna Ddeokbokki. Red Sun is located in Myeongdong, and is spicier. On the other hand, Meokswidonna is more affordable, and the stew is sweeter.

#06: Korean BBQ

Of course, how can I leave out BBQ? There are many different kinds of BBQ in Seoul, and even though I’ve tried many, my favourite is still the stone BBQ at Hongdae. This is a MUST try and I can safely say you will like this more than any random BBQ shops along the road. Must try! HSBBQ.014 HSBBQ.015

#05: Chicken + Beer (ChiMaek)

You have not been to Korea, if you have not tried their Fried Chicken (try it with beer and you will never forget the taste). I like both KyoChon Chicken and NeNe Chicken (the Snowing Chicken is da bomb!!!).

#04: Ginseng Chicken

Slurrrps. Tosokchon Ginseng Chicken has been my go-to-restaurant every time I want to have ginseng chicken for my meal. While some may find other restaurants better, I like Tosokchon for its convenient location, fast service, and of course it’s ginseng chicken which never fails every time I try it 🙂

#03: Hanguk Godeungojorim & Alchon Albab

Alright I cheated – I cannot decide which one I like more, and so I decided to just rank them my #3 both together.

Hanguk Godeungojorim is definitely one of the food I will have whenever I go back to Seoul, and I’m more than willing to travel down to Hanguk station just to have this!

On top of that, the Cheese Albab that I always order is only 4,000 krw! Awesomeeeeee. MUST TRY!!! 😀Alchon.008

#02: Soy Sauce Marinated Crab

Ganjanggyejang!!! I cannot forget the taste of this dish the moment I tried it for the one and only time in Seoul. Sigh I wish I had the chance to have it another time, but I will definitely return for more!!! The shop owner is also really friendly and gave us drinks for free! It’s conveniently located at Ahyeon, just a few stops away from Cityhall station 🙂 Give this dish a try, especially if you’re a fan of crabs and sashimi! You won’t regret it 😀

MY FAVOURITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For me, nothing beats the taste of gamjatang ❤ ❤ ❤ I absolutely love the taste of gamjatang, especially the hot soup that has been boiled to perfection for hours. The tender pork together with potatoes, mushrooms, vegetables and rice cake is the perfect combination when eaten with rice. Ohhh how I miss gamjatang already!!!!! Guys, this is a MUST MUST MUST try!!! My Korean friends have recommended me 2 chain restaurants, namely Chamimat Gamjatang and Onedang Gamjatang. Bingsu, Bingsu & more Bingsu :D

Right now I’m sitting at a café at the airport waiting to board my flight back home 🙂 Even though I’ve come to an end of the food in Seoul that I’d like to recommend, I still have tons of food photos I have in my album, so I’m going to share some more with everyone 🙂

Korea is filled with bingsu, bingsu and even more bingsu! As mentioned previously, bingsu 빙수 is similar to ice kachang except that there are different varieties here in Korea. There are plenty of shops that sells bingsu and other desserts, and the different café chains have their individual type of bingsu. I’ve tried a couple of bingsus here since last year, and here are the few favourites that I have (in no order of preference) 🙂

Bingsu aside, I’ve been introduced to Godiva’s chocolate ice-cream recently and I fell in love with it instantly. This ice-cream costs 5,800krw (if I don’t remember wrongly), and the chocolate is heavenly and divine ❤

Food: 고등어조림 Godeungeojorim

Being in Korea, it seems hard to find dishes with fish, as there would be more of chicken, pork or beef. A friend of mine did her exchange programme at Hanguk University of Foreign Studies last year, and introduced to us a small shop outside the University that sells delicious fish stew. Since then, I’ve patronised that shop again and again even though it entails travelling a little bit more to the place. It’s all worth it though 😀

The shop sells 고등어조림, pronounced as godeungeo-jorim. Jorim 조림 stems from the basic form Jorida 조리다, which means to simmer in thick sauce or soup. Godeungeo-jorim is simply fish that is simmered together with radish, soy sauce, vegetables and soup for a long period of time.


Take to Hanguk University of Foreign Studies Station (Line 1), and exit via Exit 6. Upon exiting, simply walk all the way straight. Yuuumm 🙂 I love how tasty the soup is, which stems from the long hours of boiling and simmering all the ingredients together. The fish is also soft, and the radish has fully absorbed the taste of the soup. To add on, the side dishes here are steamed egg, kimchi, mushrooms and more! I’m so glad to have been able to try out this dish, and I would certainly patronise this store the next time I return to Korea 🙂

Tip: Even though Hanguk Univ is rather far away on the subway map, you can always plan it after a shopping trip to Dongdaemun. Personally, I don’t find many nice stores to eat at Dongdaemun! Since Dongdaemun and Hanguk Univ are on the same line, you can always make a trip down to Hanguk Univ and try out this delicious dish 😀

Food: Apgujeong Kimchi Fried Rice

Kimchi Fried Rice has got to be one of the more standard Korean meals around. Surprisingly though, I’ve only found 1 store that satisfies my cravings for kimchi fried rice, and the shop is located along the streets of Apgujeong Rodeo! My friend and I stumbled upon this small shop last year while on exchange, and fell in love with the food there! To add on, it appears many celebrities visit this place as well, as the shop’s walls are plastered with signatures that dates back to 2006! The signatures of the entire Infinity Challenge crew (Yoo Jaesuk, HaHa etc) can also be found 🙂 Idols like Lee Hongki and G-Dragon appears to have patronised the shop before too!


Take to Apgujeong Rodeo Station (Bundang Line), and exit via Exit 5.

Sujaebi is pretty similar to Singapore’s mee hoon kuay! I opted for this dish because I wanted something soupy and light. This did the trick 🙂AP.013What we ordered: Kimchi Fried Rice (5,000 krw)

Yummmmy 🙂 I’m always contented after a meal at this shop, because the ahjummas are all very friendly. It’s a very small shop that is also popular – so you might have to wait for a little while!

Food: Soy Sauce Marinated Crab @ Ahyeon

간장게장 (Ganjanggejang), literally means soy sauce marinated crab. The meat is raw and fresh, and is similar to sashimi-style. A few days back, my friends and I went to a shop at Ahyeon to try 간장게장 for the first time! Guess what? 간장게장 is officially my #1 favourite food here in Korea!!! 😀 I’m an avid crab lover and sashimi, and having crabs in sashimi style was simply a wonderful experience! I love it so much, I’m making time to go down to the restaurant one more time before I fly back home. The restaurant is relatively easy to locate, and the prices are reasonable. On top of everything, the service we got from the restaurant owner is definitely A+! I think he was excited to have foreign patrons (lol) he even took a photo of us kekeke. We also got coke for free so yay to that!!


Take to Ahyeon Station (Line 2), and exit the station via Exit 4.

There were a few options on the menu, including the spicy version of the marinated crab. We chose this because the shop owner said it’s a larger portion (LOL). This costs 15,000 krw each 🙂Crab.010How to eat: Holding the crab head in one head, mix the crab fillings properly, ensuring that you get every bit that’s stuck in the corners (you don’t want to waste any). Upon mixing, add a scoop of rice and mix the rice together with the crab filling. Continue doing so for the remaining crab parts! You can choose to suck the meat out of the different parts, or use a chopstick to get the meat out and mix them together with rice.

The crab fillings, sauce and rice goes superbly well! When I tried it for the first time, I was so amazed at the taste, because it was something I have never tried before. Ah how I wish they sell this dish in Singapore too. I’ve asked a few Korean friends about it and apparently they feel that this dish is well-loved by Koreans but still relatively unknown to foreigners! This is really a pity because it’s reaaaalllyyy goooood especially if you love crabs 😀

The next time you visit Seoul, do give this a try! Personally, I would say this is a MUST try, especially if it’s not available in your country.

Food: Choco Blossom Café

Helloooo! I’ve been rather busy lately since I’ve shifted to another place, and my days are usually occupied with bringing my friend around Seoul! Also, I’ve mainly visited the same few places so there wasn’t much to update. Oops sorryyyyy!

Today I’m here to introduce a café that I recently came across, called Choco Blossom! For all chocolate lovers, I’m 101% sure you’ll love this place! 😀 It’s a nice, cosy little café situated at Sinchon, and I personally love the layout of the place. I couldn’t get to take photos of their interior design, but it’s designed like a loft, and you can have seats on the upper level, on small chairs or cushions. The loft concept is similar to what we see at Singapore’s 2am Dessert & Bar (Holland Village), so it gives off a very relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. Awesome place with awesome desserts!! 😀


Take to Sinchon Station (Line 2), and exit via the U-Plex Departmental Store exit. Similar to previous food posts at the Sinchon area, you should see this red cone upon exiting the station. Cross the road towards the Nature Republic direction, and walk straight.

It’s basically chocolate bingsu, which is a typical Korean dessert except that it’s chocolate ~ You can see the rice cake on top of the ice, and there is chocolate inside it 😀 The brown toppings tastes like chocolate cornflakes (lol) and goes very well with the chocolate ice! This was served to us piping hot and it was warm and savoury when we took our first bites! The custard was an added sweet touch to the apple crumble, and I love how the crust is soft and sweet 🙂

Previously, my friends also ordered Hot Chocolate drinks in 2 flavours: Blossom Chocolate (normal) and Bitter Chocolate. I was down with a flu then and so could not try them. However, my friends raved over how thick and good the chocolate drinks were! It feels awfully sinful, and yet tempting at the same time 😉
